Graduate Education
1. PhD
The School of Computer Science and Engineering is composed of the following four categories: PhD, Academic Master(of Engineering), MCT, MCTE. The School of Computer science and Engineering recruits and teaches students Computer Science and Technology, Software Engineering with the first-level discipline, and it is authorized to confer the doctoral degrees in the first-level discipline Computer Science and Technology. The sources of students include:
1 The person with the master degree in a related field, or the fresh graduates with master degree, passing the Postgraduate Entrance Examination;
2 Outstanding students selected from the postgraduates, grade 2, in a related field within BUAA, having met the stringent entrance standards;
3 Outstanding students selected from the postgraduates, grade 1, in a related field within BUAA, having met the stringent entrance standards;
4 Outstanding students selected from the fresh graduates with bachelor degree within or outside BUAA, having met the stringent entrance standards.
Objectives
It seeks to prepare students with broad and systematic specific knowledge of the discipline, the program provides solid foundations for understanding the changing roles of computes in society and encourages students to apply their knowledge to solving a variety of problems through laboratory and project activities independently, encourages them to be creative both in theory and fundamental technology, to be senior professional talents on the science research and engineering technology and of all-round quality.
Main research fields
Computer software and theory: including the computer science theory, internet-based cooperative working environment, software engineering and process engineering, grid computing technology, object-oriented software supporting techniques, system software and database, intermediates technology, mass information theory and methods, new internet architecture£¬ parallel and network computing, and large-scale computer application projects
Computer Architecture: high productivity computer system architecture, embedded and fault-tolerant computing grid system architecture, distributed computer system, integrated circuit design, airborne and space borne information processing.
Computer Applied Technology: virtual reality and multi-media technology, large-scale computer application project, network and information security, computer graphics, e-business, e-government, feature recognition.

2. Academic Master( of Engineering)
The School of Computer Science and Engineering recruit and teaches students Computer Science and Technology, Software Engineering with the first-level discipline and the Cartography and Geographic Information Engineering with the second-level discipline. The sources of students and classifications of the enrollment include:
Students: have be admitted through passing the National Entrance Test for MA/MS Candidates
Recommended students: outstanding students selected from the fresh graduates with bachelor degree in a related field within or outside BUAA, having met the stringent entrance standards.
This program requires 2.5 years to finish
Objectives
It seeks to prepare the students to be knowledgeable in both systematic and fundamental theory, to be capable of analyzing and solving the problems, to be able to undertake scientific researches or be in charge of some professional technology items independently, to be all-round developed professional senior talents on scientific research and engineering technology.
Main research fields
Computer Software and Theory: including the computer science theory, internet-based cooperative working environment, software engineering and process engineering, grid computing technology, object-oriented software supporting techniques, system software and database, intermediates technology, mass information theory and methods, new internet architecture parallel and network computing, and large-scale computer application projects.

3. MCT (Master of Computer Technology)
The school confers both the master degree of engineering authorized by the State Ministry of Education and Graduate Diploma of BUAA. The students are admitted through passing the National Entrance Test for MA/MS Candidates.
This program requires 2 -2.5 years to finish.
Objectives
To meet the demand of information construction and development of national economy, and the requirement of the enterprises and institutions, it seeks to prepare the students to be engineering practice-oriented, to focus the practicability and application, to be the senior computer technical talents and computer technology management talents that are capable of research development and undertaking professional computer engineering.

4. MCTE (Master of Computer Technology Engineering)
The school confers the master degree of engineering authorized by the State Ministry of Education; the students are selected from GCT-ME (Graduate Candidate Test for Master of Engineering)
This program requires 3 to 5 years to finish.
Objectives
To meet the demand of information construction and development of national economy, and the requirement of the enterprises and institutions, it seeks to prepare the students to have good command of both fundamental and professional knowledge of computer technology, to be capable of solving the problems with advanced and modern technology methods, to be creative and being the professional talents that are capable of and good at undertaking independently the engineering technology or engineering management.
